Kangaroos travel to play Kookaburras on August 12

2017 is the Nashville Kangaroos’ 20th season, a fantastic milestone by any measure. To kick it off, the Atlanta Kookaburras and Nashville Kangaroos continued their fierce rivalry with the first action of the 2017 USAFL season.

The Kookaburras were on the rise last year, taking the 2016 series 2-1, including a big win in Nashville. In 2017, the Kangaroos have turned the tables, winning the opening round and following up with a big win at the Homecoming Tournament in June.

However, both Roo wins were at home. This time, routine disadvantages of being the “away” team will be increased by the absences of national representative player John Freeman and veteran Jeff Persson, both in Australia for the AFL International Cup. Atlanta can be a high-scoring team, particularly on their own field. The challenge for Nashville is to fill the gaps left by the absence of several key Kangaroos, eliminate Atlanta’s quick center clearances, and defend their skillful counter-attacks.

Who: Nashville Kangaroos vs Atlanta Kookaburras
When: Saturday, August 12 at 12 noon EDT

Whether you’re in Middle Tennessee or northern Georgia, both teams welcome new players regardless of experience - even if you’re completely new to the sport.
