April is here and that means one thing – footy season is back!!
Since our last update, training has commenced with plenty of new faces around the club. We had our official recruitment day and a decent hit out in the unusually mild March weather, followed by a great night out with players to kick off the start of the season.
We are still yet to secure a major sponsor but are extremely positive of an announcement just around the corner. The North Melbourne Football Club have got on board for 2012, with a new set of jumpers arriving for the boys (thanks to the guys at North and X-Blades athletic wear). Our membership packages have been launched which can be found on the website, with a great deal for Nashville Kangaroos members to join the North Melbourne Kangaroos back in Australia (and after beating last year’s Premiers on the weekend for the first time since 2007 why wouldn’t you!). A group of players and supporters of the Footy team were hosted by the Nashville Predators in early April which was also a great night out and a perfect opportunity to get some exposure for our club – we wish the Preds the best of luck in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The netball club has also kicked off preparations for the year with a shout out to all potential players.
But finally it’s time for the real stuff. 23 players turned out for our first Metro Game of the year. The match report is now online, and it was extremely promising to see plenty of new faces and everyone enjoying their footy. This year will see 7 metro games played in between our various other commitments with other USAFL based teams, which means more footy for the people of Nashville. We want to see as many supporters down to cheer on the guys during the local season and it’s a great opportunity to socialize and learn the game. The club’s first official game will be at the John Harrell Memorial Cup in Louisville, KY on April 28. We are the current defending champions of this tournament, and this is a title we’re keen to retain.
The club is working towards finalizing sponsorship and merchandise, social events for the year, and reaching our target of 200 paid up members in 2012 (this will be launched very shortly). There’s plenty to do and as always we’re looking for people to help out around the club. We are looking to appoint people to support the club in the following ways:
Social events
Photographer on home game days
Videographer on home game days
Charity events
Sponsorship
