Down Under Fest Footy All-Stars Cup - All Teams 1-1 After First Day
Day one of the first annual Down Under Fest Footy All-Stars Cup (aka The D.U.F.F.A. Cup) ended with Nashville, Baton Rouge, Baltimore-Washington and host team Atlanta each with one win and one loss.
The Kangaroos expected the host team to provide tough competition, and they were not disappointed. Atlanta started strong with a couple of impressive goals, but the Kookaburras kicked only one point after the first ten minutes while the Nashville Kangaroos went on to kick another five goals.
Score:
Nashville 6.4 (40)
Atlanta 2.3 (15)
Goals: Jeff Persson 2, Chris Neilson 2, Ben Vaatstra, Damian Serong, Clint Milner.
After watching Baltimore-Washington easily account for Baton Rouge and then fall to Atlanta, perhaps Nashville relaxed a little. However, Baton Rouge started strong, determined to make it a close match for at least the first five minutes. This was enough for the Tigers to take a small early lead, and the Kangaroos could not regain momentum.
Score:
Nashville 3.3 (21)
Baton Rouge 4.5 (29)
Goals: Damian Serong 2, Chris Neilson.
With every team now even at 1-1, the last two games of the round on Sunday are effectively semi-finals to decide the final contenders. Tomorrow will be an incredible day.
