Nashville Roogirls - Making a Splash!
June 13, 2005
Nashville Kangaroos Netball Team came out with a splash!... no really. a splash! Okay the weather didn't cooperate for us – but we had our chalk and squeegee – so all was.well.good.

The Roo Girls showed up rip raring to go on Saturday. it was a fantastic turnout by the Roos with a number of new additions to the team. Pam, Yvonne, Lisa, Leandra and Olive – you ladies were AWESOME. Hope you'll stay and be a part of our team! (ie. I'll give you details on your official signing up at our next training - Love you guys)

The Atlanta Gems girls were running a ‘little' late and were a little apprehensive about playing out in the rain. but the Roo girls did not falter, rain or no rain we were up for it!

Atlanta had a couple of girls out so, believe it or not, we were able to lend a couple of players to the Atlanta team's starting line up (sob.we have come so far.sob)

Pam Mulligan, in her first game ever, played Goal Keeper (GK) for Atlanta and really gave Nicole Bryce a run for her money in the first quarter. Moreen Logsdon also helped out with the shooting for Atlanta as their Goal Shooter (GS).

Nashville Roos starting line up was:

GS    Nicole Bryce – Great shooting Nic!
GA    Leandra Dyer – Whew! Definitely knows her way around in the circle!
WA   Olive Gordon – Where has Olive been hiding! Definitely one to watch!!
C      Taryn Molony – A true steadfast player, always setting the pace – Good job!
WD   Lisa Caldwell – First time ever in the WD position! First time ever playing netball – couldn't tell – a netball natural!!!
GD    Callie Minton – Have you heard? Congratulations! (a netball or footy player coming soon.)
GK    Yvonne Young – Another first time player, playing with injury to top it – did you notice? – Nope – Did fantastic!

All in all our first home game ended up being a little sloppy, and I mean sloppy, and splishy and splashy. Both teams were a bit tentative due to the slippery conditions of the court and ball – the splits was seen a couple of times out on the court. We ended up playing just 3 quarters but it was a lot of fun!

Score was as follows:

1st Quarter: Atlanta 27
Nashville 14
2nd Quarter: Atlanta 10
Nashville 6
3rd Quarter: Atlanta 11
Nashville 8

Total:

Atlanta 48
Nashville 28

Last but not least, I have to give a big thanks to our volunteers and of course those that came out to support us – even with the wonderful weather – we DEFINITELY APPRECIATE IT! Damian, Lyder, Daniel – THANK YOU – you guys really stepped up when we needed ya (and I don't care what anyone else says you guys did a great job given the circumstances! Maybe you guys will train to be our umpires for every tournament) –!

Look forward to seeing everyone again at our next event on July 16th.
