Brinker Down Under!
Former Club Chairman Playing For Solomontown Cats!

Story posted April 7, 2005

G'Day all in Nashville. I just had my first match of Aussie rules on Friday night under the lights.  I'm running with the Solomontown Cats ("Sollies") B grade team. It's comparable to Rooball. "A Grade" is comparable to a Denver team on steroids-or maybe a little faster than that. We played the opening weekend match at the main oval in town- probably about 500 people there under the lights at 6pm.

Opening match went well. Despite me trying to screw myself out of a run - I sprained my ankle playing basketball on Wed nite, but Stella took care of me - I put up a good effort. I played center half forward and did some relief for the ruckman. I fulfilled the Dripps (also former Club Chairman that lives in Geelong) philosophy of defense- one shepherd (a few of those), one smother (maybe 1/2 of one), and one spoil/tackle (whole bunch of those). Yeah, Sven, I even cleaned up a dude for ya. On the offensive side, I had several marks, assists, and went 1.1.7 on the scoreboard. Not bad for a fat old yank.

We ended up winning in the end. In true Roo form, I could barely walk on Sunday, but seeing that I'll be over in Nashvegas, I have 3 weeks to recover. Looking forward to catching up with everyone at the Grille and having a few kicks at practice.
