Wallabies v. Redbacks next Saturday at Rhodes Park

As we get the second half of the season going, we have an update from Elmington Park: the park will remain closed longer than we originally expected, but the good news is that when it reopens, we will have our beautiful field again. In the meantime, Game 4 of the 2010 Nashville Metro League is going to be played at Rhodes Soccer Park, with the game time set for 11am.

So far the Rutherford Redbacks have dominated the Wilson County Wallabies in the first three games of the season, narrowly winning 10.16 (76) to 10.5 (65) back on May 6, followed by a solid win 12.11 (83) to 10.6 (66) on July 1, and then the dominating performance (marred only by an amazing comeback rally) 16.12 (108) 11.8 (74) to go up 3-0.

This Saturday, the Redbacks look to continue their powerful play and break the backs of the Wallabies right out of the gate. Look for the usual stars to shine, including captain Damian "What's" Serong "with that" and Ben Vaatstra along with newcomers Cliff "Nugget" Cosnahan, Tim Kleman, and Jake Ridings. And keep an eye out for a couple of guys who look to make their mark: Justin "Biggie" White, Jesse "the Body" Wells.

Standing in their way are the Wallabies, determined to change the tide and restore self-esteem. Let by captain Nick "Chopper" Parker, "Sugar" Kane Harrison recently returned from Oz, and Luke "Brawny" Stockdale. They will be looking for support from their teammates who will need to reach deep, Travis "Quig" Quigley, Anthony Verdouw, Dee "Weeman" Vsetecka, and Dave "Walka" Walker. Be sure to keep an eye on these two guys who are much improved in 2010: Ross "Roscoe" Flemming and Kenny Walker.

Surveying both sides of the battle field will be Kangaroos head coach Marty "Thommo" Thompson who will be looking for standout performances and trying to figure out the right mix for the upcoming MAAFL Championship game on against Ohio Valley on August 14. He may not look like Patton, but he will be patroling the sidelines as if he was.

We will still have a post-function Saturday night at The Frayed Knot. Start time determined by game time, but probably will be 8:00 pm.
