The 2010 Footy Season, our 14th, is off and running at quite a tear. You will recognize a lot of the events this year, such as Recruitment Day and Coach's Guernsey Presentation Night to start the season, and ending with the Awards Banquet. In the middle you will see a lot of familiar foes take the field.

But you will also see a few new wrinkles. This year the Rooboys head to Austin, Texas for a wrangling tournament with the Dallas Magpies, the Austin Crows, and the New York Magpies. Dallas is a former MAAFL championship team, and New York was one of the three teams competing for the Barassi Cup along with Nashville and the Boston Demons (who also returns to the Kangaroo schedule this year). The Austin Crows are a spinoff of the Dallas club and represent the growth of footy in the Lone Star State.

In addition, we are proud to say the Nashville Metro Australian Football League has been restarted, with the Rutherford County Red Backs and the Wilson County Wallabies squaring off five times. This will give you that many more chances to get your footy fix.

So far, the Rooboys have done well, winning both the A and B divisions at the John Harrell Cup, and solid wins against the arch foe Atlanta Kookaburras and a MAAFL opener against the upstart Columbus Jackaroos. The only stumble came on the road against Dallas and Austin. With the boys sitting at 4-2 (1-0 MAAFL), they are in a great position entering the second half of the season: their road trips are to Boston in July and Ohio Valley in September for a Nationals warm up. Both remaining MAAFL games are at home against the Ohio Valley River Rats (8-14) and three-time reigning champs Chicago United (8-28).

The team is growing by leaps and bounds again, now with over 40 registered players. We have kept most of our veterans, such as Captain Luke Nemeth and new Vice Captain Nick Parker along with long time veterans Dee Vsetecka, Dave Walker, Mischa Nemeth, Gilberto Ortiz, and Justin Davis, along side our Aussie brothers Damian Serong, Neil Cumming, and two-time reigning goal kicking champion, Chris Moerman.

Our growth is awesome in numbers, including our home grown talent: Kenny Wells, Jake Ridings, Nick Grimes, Haydn Moore, Jay Daniel, Marlon Wright, and Brad Hill. Just as amazing is the growth in Aussies, which now includes "joeys" (meaning first year Kangaroos) Kane Harrison and Luke Stockdale, the return of Rick Laning, and two Tassie embassador players, Ben Vaatstra and Anthony Verdouw. All together, this is a good looking bunch of guys, and a pretty good standard of footy, too.

If you haven't made a game yet this year, don't despair, there is still a half a season. So come on out and help cheer the Roos to victory!
